Chile: new minimum energy efficiency standard for light motor vehicles
A new minimum energy efficiency standard for light motor vehicles has been set in Chile.
The vehicles that will be subject to the new energy efficiency standard established by this resolution will correspond to light vehicles, as established in article 1 of Supreme Decree No. 211, of 1991, of the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications, which establishes regulations on vehicle emissions. light motorized vehicles, or the one that replaces it. Light motorized vehicles are defined all those with a gross vehicle weight of less than 2,700 kg, excluding those with three or fewer wheels.
The metric to be used for the definition of the standard will be the energy performance in kilometers per liters of gasoline equivalent in average terms for the total number of validly issued individual homologation certificates. In addition, its equivalence in grams of CO2 per kilometer will be indicated from the information contained in the vehicle approval. The yield values will be determined using the consumption information contained in the technical report of the homologation certificate of the vehicle in question.
The referential energy performance standard for each year will correspond to the following values:
a) Between the years 2024 and 2026, both years inclusive, the value will correspond to 18.8 kilometers per liter of gasoline equivalent.
b) Between the years 2027 and 2029, both years inclusive, the value will correspond to 22.8 kilometers per liter of gasoline equivalent.
c) From the year 2030 onwards, including the year 2030, the value will correspond to 28.9 kilometers per liter of gasoline equivalent.
The standard established by this resolution will enter into force 24 months after its publication in the Official Gazette.
Compliance with the standard during the year in which it enters into force will be controlled considering the individual homologation certificates validly issued by each person in charge between the first day of the month following the aforementioned entry into force and December 31 of said year.
