Uruguay: New decree on emissions

Uruguay has published Decree No. 135/021 of the Executive Power – Air Quality Regulation.

The objective of this regulation is to protect the environment through the prevention of air pollution, by establishing air quality objectives to reduce risks to human health and ecosystems, and setting maximum emission limits both for fixed and mobile sources.

Article 42 establishes a prohibition on the importation of motor vehicles that do not comply or are not approved with respect to compliance with the emission standards of mobile sources that are established in this regulation, from a period of 2 years counted from the date of publication of the Decree. Likewise, in the same term, the commercialization of zero km motor vehicles that do not meet the same conditions is prohibited.

The emission standards mentioned in the regulation are the European ones, such as Regulation 715/2007 (Euro V).
