EU: New public consultation on vehicle type-approval announced

 

The EU Commission has announced its intention to launch soon a public consultation on type-approval templates for certain motor vehicle safety systems.

The initiative will introduce document templates for the approval of the following systems of motor vehicles (made mandatory by the General Safety Regulation II):

• intelligent speed assistance system;
• driver drowsiness and attention warning system;
• event data recorder.

Through this change, more consistency in implementing EU vehicle approval legislation will be ensured.

Within the initiative, the type-approval rules (Regulation (EU) 2021/535) will also be amended to require that the mass of the energy storage system be included in the certificate of conformity of zero-emission vehicles.
