Uruguay: Emissions requirements for the import of vehicles

 

Uruguay has published Decree No. 432/2021 – Fixation as an Import Requirement, the Obligatory Approval of Technical Characteristics of Motor Vehicles for Transport of gross weight greater than 3,500 Kg.

In accordance with the Decree, it is mandatory for all vehicles of categories M2, M3, N2 and N3, registrable before the National Directorate of Transport of the Ministry of Transport and Public Works, as established in the second article, to have engines that comply with the maximum the limit values for emissions of polluting gases and particles and smoke opacity established in Directive 1999/96/EC of the European Union (Euro III Standard) or in EPA Rule 98.
