EU: New delegated regulation regarding the performance of heavy-duty trailers with regard to their influence on the CO2 emissions and fuel consumption

The EU Commission has published a Draft Commission Implementing Regulation implementing Regulation (EC) No 595/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards the performance of heavy-duty trailers with regard to their influence on the CO2 emissions, fuel consumption, energy consumption and zero emission range of motor vehicles and amending the Implementing Regulation (EU) 2020/683.

This Commission implementing act serves to enable manufacturers to certify their heavy goods trailers with a technically permissible maximum mass exceeding 8 000 kg by means of a simulation tool, which determines the influence of trailers on the CO2 emissions towing truck. The certification and simulation are based on the principles laid down in Regulation (EU) 2017/2400 for motor vehicles and thereby extends the use of VECTO tool to trailers of categories O3 and O4.

The proposed date of entry into force of the regulation is June 2022.
