Mexico: New version of the standard for tyres published
Mexico has informed that it published the Mexican Official Standard NOM-086-1-SCFI-2020, “Rubber industry – New radial tyres for vehicles with a gross vehicle weight exceeding 4,536 kg and diagonal tyres of any load capacity – Safety requirements, test methods and commercial information” in the Official Journal of the Federation.
This standard replaces the previous one NOM-086-1-SCFI-2011, published on 19 April 2011.
The standard establishes the safety specifications and test methods that must be met by new tires, national and imported, of radial construction that are used in vehicles with a gross vehicle weight greater than 4,536 kg (10,000 lb), the diagonal construction tires of any load capacity and radial and diagonal construction tires for temporary use, which are used in automobiles, light trucks, vans, heavy trucks, tractor-trailers, buses and trailers, which are marketed as final merchandise and not as part of a motor vehicle in the United Mexican States.
The certificates of conformity can be obtained exclusively from the certification bodies for accredited and approved products in terms of the provisions of the Federal Law on Metrology and Standardization and its Regulations, in accordance with the provisions of the second, third and fourth transitory provisions of the Decree by which The Quality Infrastructure Law is issued and the Federal Law on Metrology and Standardization is repealed, with respect to the scope of this Official Mexican Standard.
The evaluation of the conformity of the product object of the application of this Official Mexican Standard must be carried out by tire model and must be carried out by accredited and approved persons in terms of the provisions of the Federal Law on Metrology and Standardization and its Regulation.
The certificate issued by the accredited and approved body must cover the model of the tires and their descriptive codes in accordance with this procedure for the evaluation of conformity.
