EU: Upcoming meeting of the EU Commission’s Working Group on Motor Vehicles
On the 16 May 2022, another meeting of the EU Commission’s Working Group on Motor Vehicles will be held. This body, on behalf of the EU, prepares and discusses drafts of the EU legislation on vehicles, their type approval, emissions, and many other topics.
For the upcoming meeting, the following points, among others, are on the agenda:
- Exchange of information for the technical support on Advanced Driver Distraction Warning and next step for Stakeholders’ participation
- Revision of repair and maintenance information (RMI) provisions due to technical progress in the field of cybersecurity
- Event Data Recorder for Heavy Vehicles: exchange of views on the implementation of the General Safety Regulation
- Follow up on the Question & Answers guideline regarding the implementation of Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2021/1958 on intelligent speed assistance systems
- Presentation by the Commission services and exchange of views on a proposal for amendments to Commission Regulation (EU) No 582/2011 (Euro VI), as regards type-approval of heavy duty vehicles using pure biodiesel.
Regarding the last point, the main content of amendment proposal is as follows:
- Facilitation of emissions type-approval of heavy duty vehicles operating on biodiesel (up to B100)
- Introduction of B100 (EN 14214) as a reference fuel in the Euro VI implementing legislation
- Minimize the duplication of type-approval testing
After the meeting, it should be clearer in which direction the regulatory changes will go.
