Jamaica: New standard for tires
Jamaica has published a new Standard Specification for Pneumatic tyres for passenger cars. It specifies the designation, dimensions, load ratings and labelling requirements of metric-series tyres primarily intended for passenger cars. The standard applies to all passenger car tyres to be used in the local market including those arriving with imported new and used vehicles.
This standard is a revision of and supersedes JS 244: 2018. The revision was conducted to remove the methods of tests from the standard and updating of the general requirements to ensure alignment with current international trends. The removal of the prescriptive elements from the standard and developing/ adopting methods of tests to be applied in the testing of the product will assist with ensuring compliance with the requirements.
The revised standard is intended to provide assurance that adequate safety controls exist for the intended users of pneumatic tyres for passenger cars.
A notice of the Standard Specification for Pneumatic tyres for passenger cars will appear in The Jamaica Gazette Supplement – Proclamations, Rules and Regulations. The document will appear as a Jamaican Standard Specification, with mandatory status, and will be available for sale.
