GCC: New regulation for electric vehicles

 

The Gulf Cooperation Council has just published new Technical Requirements for Electric Vehicles GSO 2698:2024.  It is valid in United Arab Emirates, Kingdom of Bahrain, the State Of Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Yemen.

The standard is concerned with all battery electric vehicles with a speed of more than 25 km/h taking into consideration the compatibility with the relevant Gulf standards and regulations. The performance of the electrical vehicle is part of this regulation.

The standard contains requirements for the protection against electrical shock, rechargeable energy storage system (REESS), the protection against water effects, impact strength, performance of the electrical vehicles and many others.

The standard contains numerous references to UN ECE Regulation 100, international ISO and IEC standards, and also the US FMVSS 305.
