Thailand: New vehicle regulations regarding occupants protection in case of collision
Thailand has published two new ministerial regulations on vehicles with regard to the Protection of the Occupants in the Event of a Lateral Collision and Frontal Collision.
The regulations are:
- Draft Ministerial Regulation on Vehicles with regard to the Protection of the Occupants in the Event of a Frontal Collision (TIS 2400-256X(202X))
- Draft Ministerial Regulation on Vehicles with regard to the Protection of the Occupants in the Event of a Lateral Collision (TIS 2399-256X(202X))
The former one applies to:
- Vehicles of category M1 with a total permission mass not exceeding 3,500 kg
- Vehicles of category N1 with a total permission mass not exceeding 2,500 kg
The latter one applies to:
- Vehicles of category M1 with a maximum permission mass not exceeding 3,500 kg
- Vehicles of category M1 with a maximum permission mass exceeding 3,500 kg where the “R” point of the lowest seat is not more than 700 mm from ground level when the vehicle is in the condition corresponding to the reference mass
- Vehicles of category N1
The regulations are modelled after international UN technical regulations:
- UN Regulation No. 94 Uniform provisions concerning the approval of vehicles with regard to the protection of the occupants in the event of a frontal collision
- UN Regulation No. 95 Uniform provisions Concerning the Approval of Vehicles with regard to the protection of the occupants in the event of a lateral collision
Their adoption is still to be determined and they will enter into force 2 years following the date of its publication in the Government Gazette.
