EU: Parliament adopts the Euro 7 Regulations
The European Parliament has endorsed the agreement achieved with the Council concerning the forthcoming Euro 7 Regulation. Additionally, the Parliament has released a revised version of the document encompassing the proposal for the new Regulation governing the type-approval process for motor vehicles, engines, and related systems and components, focusing on their emissions and battery durability, and nullifying Regulations (EC) No 715/2007 and (EC) No 595/2009.
The approved text maintains the current testing conditions and emissions thresholds (as specified for M1 and N1 vehicles). For passenger cars and vans, the prevailing Euro 6 test conditions and exhaust emissions thresholds will be upheld. However, for buses and trucks, more stringent thresholds will be enforced for exhaust emissions measured both in laboratory settings and under real driving conditions, while retaining the existing Euro VI testing criteria.
For the first instance, EU standards will encompass limits on brake particles emissions (PM10) for cars and vans, along with establishing minimum performance criteria for battery durability in electric and hybrid vehicles.
An Environmental Vehicle Passport will be issued for each vehicle, containing details regarding its environmental performance at the time of registration (including pollutant emission limits, CO2 emissions, fuel and electric energy consumption, electric range, and battery durability). Vehicle users will also have access to real-time information concerning fuel consumption, battery health, pollutant emissions, and other pertinent data generated by onboard systems and monitors.
