UNECE: Cybersecurity management regulation extended to motorcycles and scooters
The Working Party on Automated/Autonomous and Connected Vehicles within UNECE has today resolved to broaden the scope of UN Regulation No. 155 on cyber security and cyber security management to encompass motorcycles, scooters, and electric bicycles exceeding a speed of 25 km/h.
Effective since January 2021, UN Regulation 155 has been implemented across various global regions, primarily addressing cyber security concerns in passenger cars, trucks, and buses. Its primary objective is to establish an international framework for the approval of road vehicles concerning cyber security standards.
Following a thorough examination of the regulation’s requirements and their applicability to motorcycles, the Working Group reached a consensus to incorporate this vehicle category within the purview of UN Regulation 155, with the endorsement of the motorcycle industry.
The decision to expand the scope of UN Regulation 155 to include motorcycles (vehicle category L) will be presented for adoption at the UNECE-hosted World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP.29) in June 2024. However, individual national implementation strategies may differ, potentially featuring earlier milestones.
