Taiwan: Extension of BSMI certification for EVSE

Taiwan has published a Proposal for Legal Inspection Requirements for Electric Vehicles Charging Equipment.

Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment is becoming popular in household and indoor parking environments. In order to ensure the safety of Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment and protect consumer rights, the BSMI proposes to include Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment (less than or equal to 30 kW), which is currently subject to Voluntary Product Certification (VPC) into the scope of mandatory inspection of the BSMI. Two alternative conformity assessment procedures are made available for the choice of applicants, i.e. Registration of Product Certification (RPC) or Type-Approved Batch Inspection (TABI).

This means that such charging equipment will fall under the BSMI certification under the Commodity Inspection Act.

The relevant standard to meet will be:

  • CNS 15511-1: 2021
  • CNS 15511-21-2: 2021
  • CNS 15511-23: 2021
  • CNS 15511-24: 2021
  • CNS 15700-1: 2017
  • CNS 15700-2: 2021
  • CNS 15700-3: 2021
  • CNS 15700-3-1:2021
  • Technical Specification for Cybersecurity Testing of EV Charging System
  • CNS 15663 (2013): Section 5 “Marking of presence”

The proposed date of entry into force of the regulation is 1 July 2026.
