China: Four new draft GB standards for vehicles

China has published four new draft GB standards for vehicles.  These are:

  • National Standard of the P.R.C., Fuel consumption limits for passenger cars (new version of GB 19578—2021)
  • National Standard of the P.R.C., Motor vehicles-windshield demisting and defrosting systems technical specification (new version of GB 11555-2009)
  • National Standard of the P.R.C., On-board accident emergency call system
  • National Standard of the P.R.C., Light sources for power-driven vehicles and their trailers —Safety requirement

The standard GB 19578 specifies the limits for fuel consumption of passenger cars, application for type approval, fuel consumption test procedure, determination and recording of type approval values, conformity of production, same type judgment, and implementation date. It applies to M1 vehicles that can be fueled with gasoline or diesel fuel and have a maximum design total mass not exceeding 3500kg. This document does not apply to vehicles that only use gas fuels or alcohol ether fuels.  The proposed implementation date of this document is January 1, 2026. For products newly applied for type approval, it will be implemented from the implementation date of this document. For products that have obtained the type approval, the implementation will start from the 25th month from the implementation date of this document.

The standard GB 11555 specifies the technical requirements and test methods for motor vehicles-windshield demisting and defrosting systems. It applies to vehicles of category M1. The proposed implementation date of this document is January 1, 2026. For products newly applied for type approval, it will be implemented from the implementation date of this document. For products that have obtained the type approval, the implementation will start from the 13th month from the implementation date of this document.

The standard for On-board accident emergency call system specifies the technical requirements and test methods for accident emergency call system.  It applies to M1 and N1 category vehicles.  The proposed implementation date of this document is January 1, 2027. For products newly applied for type approval, the implementation will start from the 19th month from the implementation date of this document. For products that have obtained the type approval, the implementation will start from the 31th month from the implementation date of this document.

The last standard specifies the requirements, test conditions and inspection rules related to safety of filament light sources, gas discharge light sources and standardized LED light sources in lamps used by vehicles.  It applies to light sources in road lighting and light signal devices and systems used by category M, N, L and O vehicles.  The proposed date of adoption is to be determined.
