Chile: Updates to the energy labelling regulations for light and medium-sized motor vehicles
Chile has published an Amendment to Supreme Decree No. 61 of 2012 of the Ministry of Energy, approving the energy labelling regulations for light and medium-sized motor vehicles.
The notified document amends Article 4.1(e) and Article 5 of Supreme Decree No. 61 of 2012 of the Ministry of Energy in order to update the information required on vehicle energy efficiency labels as per the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) test cycle. Such information is aligned with the new test cycle that will be used to measure performance and CO2 emissions, namely the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP).
The objective of Supreme Decree No. 61/2012 is to provide standardized information to the public and enable consumers to take energy consumption and CO2 emissions into account when purchasing a new light or medium-sized motor vehicle. In order to deliver on that objective, the test cycle used to gather such information needs to be updated, moving from NEDC to WLTP. In addition, the proposed regulatory amendment seeks to comply with and contribute to the uniform application of the environmental standards that will enter into force on 1 October 2025, hence its urgent processing.
The proposed date of adoption is 30 September 2025.
