China: Updated standard for seats, anchorages and head restraints

 

China has published an updated GB standard for Strength requirement and test of automobile seats, their anchorages and any head restraints. It replaces the existing standard GB 15083-2019.

Compared with GB 15083-2019, apart from structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows:

—The scope of application of the standard has been changed (see 1, 2019 version 1);

—The definitions of “vehicle type, R point” have been deleted (3.1, 3.13 of the 2019 version);

—Definitions for “adjustable headrest, rear window glass, head-to-back clearance, design torso angle, effective headrest apex, headrest height, actual torso angle, R50 point, rebound, and side wings” have been added (see 3.11.4, 3.14~3.22);

—N1, N2, and N3 have been added. The requirements for seat strength testing for M2 and M3 category vehicles are as follows:

— Headrest installation requirements have been changed, adding the requirement that “headrests should be installed on the front outer seats of N category vehicles” (see 4.4.1; 4.4.2 in the 2019 version);

— General requirements for headrests have been added (see 4.6.1);

— Headrest height requirements and measurement methods have been changed (see 4.6.2 and Appendix D; 4.6 and 5.5 in the 2019 version);

— Static maximum head clearance requirements and measurement procedures for the front outer seats have been added (see 4.6.6 and Appendix G);

— Headrest height maintenance requirements and test procedures have been added (see 4.7.4 and Appendix H);

— Requirements and test procedures for non-use positions have been added (see 4.8 and Appendix I);

— BioRID has been added. II. Requirements and dynamic performance test procedures (see 4.9 and Appendix J);

— Added safety requirements for large-angle seats (see 4.12);

— Added safety requirements for electric seats to prevent occupant crush injuries (see 4.13);

— Added anti-inertia test methods using dummies (see 5.3.6, 5.3.7 and K.3);

— Changed the test requirements for headrest rearward displacement (see 5.4.3, Appendix C; 5.4.3 in 2019 version);

— Changed the wording of headrest width requirements and test methods (see 5.6, Appendix E; 5.6 in 2019 version);

— Changed the requirements for headrest gap (see 5.7, Appendix F; 5.7 in 2019 version);

— Added a clause for determining the same type (see Chapter 6).
