Saudi Arabia: Two new regulations for safety belts and child restraint systems
Saudi Arabia has published two new regulations:
- Uniform provisions concerning the approval of enhanced Child Restraint Systems used on board of motor vehicles (ECRS)
- Uniform provisions concerning the approval of vehicles with regard to safety-belt anchorages
The first one applies to Integral Universal ISOFIX Child Restraint Systems (i-Size) and Integral “Specific vehicle ISOFIX” Child Restraint Systems for child occupants of power driven vehicles. It is an implementation of the UN ECE Regulation No. 129-2013 Until Amd12-2022.
The second one applies to vehicles of categories M and N1 with regard to their anchorages for safety-belts intended for adult occupants of forward-facing or rearward-facing or side-facing seats. It is an implementation of the ECE 14 Rev.7-2023 Until Amd3-2024.
For both regulations, the proposed date of entry into force is starting from models 2026.
The adoption of the two regulations is another step towards a harmonization of Saudi vehicle requirements with UN ECE regulations.
