China: New GB standards for Electronic stability control system (ESC).

China has published two updated standards for Electronic stability control system (ESC).

These are:

  • National Standard of the P.R.C., Performance requirements and testing methods for electronic stability control system(ESC) for light-duty vehicles
  • National Standard of the P.R.C., Performance requirements and testing methods for electronic stability control system(ESC) for heavy-duty vehicles

The first one supersedes GB/T 30677—2014, Performance Requirements and Test Methods for Electronic Stability Control Systems of Light-Duty Vehicles. Compared with the 2014 edition, and aside from editorial revisions, the principal technical changes are as follows:

a) The scope of the standard has been revised (see Chapter 1; Chapter 1 of the 2014 edition);

b) The edition and clause numbering of GB 21670 referenced in the method for determining the adhesion coefficient utilisation rate have been updated (see 6.2.2; 6.2.2 of the 2014 edition);

c) The reference to GB 21670 for brake break-in has been revised to the current version of GB 21670 (see 6.3.6; 6.3.6 of the 2014 edition);

d) The requirements relating to steering wheel angle in the sinusoidal stop test have been modified (see 7.7.6; 7.7.6 of the 2014 edition);

e) The requirements for testing on ice- and snow-covered roads have been removed (see 7.8 of the 2014 edition);

f) New requirements addressing changes to and extensions of vehicle types have been introduced (see Chapter 9);

g) Provisions on the implementation of the standard have been added (see Chapter 10);

h) The informative appendix on ice and snow road testing requirements has been deleted (see Appendix A of the 2014 edition);

i) A new normative appendix setting out functional safety requirements has been added (see Appendix A).

The second one supersedes GB/T 38185—2019, Performance Requirements and Test Methods for Electronic Stability Control Systems of Commercial Vehicles. Compared with the 2019 edition, and aside from editorial revisions, the principal technical changes are as follows:

a) The scope of the standard has been revised (see Chapter 1; Chapter 1 of the 2019 edition);

b) The performance requirements for rollover stability control in the J-turn test have been modified (see 5.1.2; 5.1.2 of the 2019 edition);

c) Functional safety requirements for electronic stability control systems of heavy-duty vehicles have been introduced (see 5.5);

d) Additional test requirements have been removed (see 7.10 of the 2019 edition);

e) New requirements addressing changes to and extensions of vehicle types have been added (see Chapter 8);

f) Provisions concerning implementation of the standard have been added (see Chapter 9);

g) Additional test requirements previously set out in the informative appendix have been deleted (see Appendix A of the 2019 edition);

h) A new normative appendix specifying functional safety requirements has been added (see Appendix A).
