EU: Several new regulatory initiatives relevant for vehicles announced
The EU Commission has announced planned initiatives in the automotive area. These are:
Tests, Methods, and Administrative Requirements for In-Service Conformity and Market Surveillance of Battery Durability in M1 and N1 Vehicles
This initiative establishes detailed testing procedures, methodologies, and administrative provisions for in-service conformity (ISC) and market surveillance of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles. It focuses on in-vehicle battery durability, electric vehicle (EV) range under low-temperature conditions, EV system power, and the expanded scope of on-board fuel consumption monitoring (OBFCM). These measures are essential for the effective implementation of Euro 7 standards and support the type-approval process in line with these requirements.
Type-Approval Requirements for the Safety and Design of Non-Road Mobile Machinery Operating on Public Roads
Self-propelled mobile machinery designed to perform specific tasks may need to operate on public roads, either occasionally or regularly. Until now, EU Member States have applied differing technical regulations. However, with the introduction of Regulation (EU) 2025/14, these rules can now be harmonized at the EU level. This draft Delegated Regulation defines the detailed type-approval requirements for such machinery.
Administrative Requirements for In-Service Conformity and Market Surveillance of Brake Emissions from Cars and Vans
This initiative sets out specific testing procedures, methodologies, and administrative requirements for monitoring brake particle emissions from passenger cars and vans. It ensures consistent in-service conformity and effective market surveillance.
Methods, Tests, and Administrative Requirements for Type-Approval of Brake Particle Emissions in M1 and N1 Vehicles
This initiative defines the necessary testing methods, technical requirements, and administrative procedures for the type-approval of brake particle emissions from cars and vans, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
Tests, Methods, and Administrative Requirements for Type-Approval of In-Vehicle Battery Durability in Cars and Vans
This initiative outlines the testing procedures, methodologies, and administrative provisions required for the type-approval of cars and vans, with a focus on battery durability, EV performance at low temperatures, system power, and expanded OBFCM. It plays a key role in enabling the timely implementation of Euro 7 standards and supports early type-approval. By ensuring that all necessary tests and requirements are clearly defined, it contributes to reducing vehicle emissions and improving air quality.
