China: Updated GB standard for Intelligent and connected vehicle — Safety requirements for automated driving system 

 

China has published a new GB standard for Intelligent and connected vehicle — Safety requirements for automated driving system. 

It specifies the technical requirements, maintenance requirements and conformity of type assessment for the ADS of intelligent and connected vehicles, and describes the corresponding methods including assessment of maintenance requirements, assessment of safety case and conformity tests. 

It applies to M and N category vehicles equipped with Level 3 (L3) and/or Level 4 (L4) automated driving systems (excluding automated parking systems). 

The standard replaces the previous version GB/T44721—2024 “General Technical Requirements for Automated Driving Systems of Intelligent Connected Vehicles”. Compared with GB/T44721—2024, apart from structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows:  

—The standard name has been changed, and safety requirements have been clarified;  

—The scope of the standard has been changed (see Chapter 1, Chapter 1 of the 2024 edition);  

—The normative references have been changed (see Chapter 2, Chapter 2 of the 2024 edition);  

—The terms and definitions have been changed (see Chapter 3, Chapter 3 of the 2024 edition);  

—Abbreviations have been added (see Chapter 4);  

—The requirements for dynamic driving tasks have been changed (see 5.1, Chapters 4, 5, and 6.3 of the 2024 edition); —The requirements for human-machine interaction have been changed (see 5.2, Chapters 6.2 and 7 of the 2024 edition);  

—The requirements for user notification have been changed (see 5.3, Chapter 7 of the 2024 edition). Chapter 8);  

—The assurance requirements have been changed (see Chapter 6, Appendix A.2 of the 2024 edition); 

—Assurance requirement verification has been added (see Chapter 7);  

—Safety file verification has been added (see Chapter 8);  

—Confirmatory testing has been changed (see Chapter 9, Appendix B of the 2024 edition); —Type identification has been added (see Chapter 10);  

—Standard implementation has been added (see Chapter 11);  

—Technical requirements for takeover capability monitoring have been changed (see Appendix A, 6.1 of the 2024 edition);  

—Additional technical requirements for L3-level ADS functions applied to expressways have been added (see Appendix B);  

—Additional technical requirements for L4-level ADS functions have been added (see Appendix C);  

—Safety files have been changed (see Appendix D, Appendices A.1, A.3~A.6 of the 2024 edition).
