Saudi Arabia : Updates to the Technical Regulation for Electric Vehicles

Saudi Arabia has published an updated Technical Regulation for Electric Vehicles.

The reason for the updates is the alignment of the provisions of the Technical Regulation with the recently issued Product Safety Law.

In the Technical Regulation, among others, tech list of standards and its status were updated.

With reference to Article 15, Paragraph 20 of the Product Safety Regulation, which outlines that technical regulations must include “reference to Saudi, national, regional, or international standards,” SASO updated the list of standards related to the implementation of the Technical Regulation for Electric Vehicle Efficiency, aiming to facilitate the adoption of standards that the authority uses as a reference in conformity assessments for devices, with consideration of the following:

• The specifications listed in this document are considered approved technical references, and adopting them indicates product compliance with the essential requirements in the Electric Vehicle Efficiency Technical Regulation.
• Compliance with the listed specifications is regarded as the best and most reliable means of demonstrating conformity, due to their official recognition and direct link to compliance.
• Manufacturing products covered under the scope of the Electric Vehicle Efficiency Technical Regulation in accordance with the specifications listed in this document is considered sufficient evidence of meeting the essential requirements of the technical regulation.
• Manufacturers may adopt alternative technical solutions to the listed specifications, provided the authority approves the proposed alternatives for proving compliance with the essential requirements stated in the technical regulation.
• This list is subject to periodic review and updates to ensure alignment with technical developments and requirements at both regional and international levels.
• When a technical standard is revised, replaced, or canceled, the authority will update the list to reflect these changes.
• Updates or amendments to this list will be announced through the official website of the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization, and official economic publication channels. The amendments become effective from the date of publication.
• The authority may use other tools to issue the specifications listed in this document.
